Facebook or not?

I have avoided Facebook for all this time for a few reasons. First off, I have a blog so why would I need Facebook? And I really don't like the idea of Facebook. For some reason, I associate it with MySpace which I think is dirty. So fellow bloggers, could you educate me on Facebook? Blogs are fine and all, but I really don't have any contact with my high school friends, and they all use Facebook. A lot of them have asked me to sign up. What are the pros and cons, if there are any? Do you get a bunch of dirty pop-ups? Can you have a joint account with your spouse?

I thought Facebook was a blast at first-it was so fun reconnecting with old friends, mission companions, relatives, etc. I used to "chat" with people on it, too, which was kind of fun. After a while, I lost my enthusiasm, but I still get on once in a while. In fact, I just ressumed contact with a lady I taught on my mission-too bad my German is so rusty. Anyway, I say go for it! It really is fun, and I haven't had any problems with trashy stuff or anything. I don't know if they do joint accounts, but it's easy to get your own, and it would probably be easier for people to find you that way, anyway. Oh, and you can set the privacy settings to limit who can see what. Have fun!!! Add me as a friend when you get set up...and don't take it personally if Mikey doesn't befriend you right away. :) He's pretty picky. :) You're cooler than me, so maybe that won't be a problem for you. :)

I think it is a fun way to find so many old friends, from all different times in your life. I don't think you can do a joint account but it is so simple to set up it literally takes 5 minutes. Plus no distasteful ads or pop ups. At least none that I have encountered. Give in to peer pressure if you don't like it all you have to do is NOT check your profile.

I only like Facebook so I can get a quick update on people's daily activities/thoughts (I think people's day-to-day activities are facinating). I just like being able to write to someone quickly w/out having to send emails. Facebook does not have dirty pop-ups...it is more classy than Myspace. The only thing that is a little wierd is having my parents on there too (I am forced to keep my comments cleaner) ;)

FB makes it easier to find people you've lost contact with. The only cons I can think of are the live chat feature where any of your friends can IM you (but you can turn that off) and that anyone can find you :) But you don't have to be friends with everyone and it's worth finding some people you don't like to find a lot of people you do like. And when you first join you'll spend a week straight reconnecting with people... it's a little addictive at first.

By the way, you can always choose who you want to be friends with. People can't automatically be your friend. You have to accept or reject their invitation to be friends and you can always say no to an invitation. I do it all the time! (No offense to anyone out there). I'm pretty sure it doesn't even tell them you said no.
